Benefactor gives free copies of Orwell’s ‘1984’ signed “Fight Back”

A benefactor protests Trump’s policies, distributing copies of George Orwell’s dystopia novel ‘1984’.

A mystery benefactor in San Francisco has distributed a considerable amount of copies of George Orwell’s ‘1984’ in protest at Trump’s policies.

The benefactor(s) purchased 50 copies of ‘1984’ from the Booksmith, a bookstore in the US and placed them on a table with a sign reading “Read up! Fight back”.

Orwell’s ‘1984’ depicts a future dystopia controlled by a manipulative government that uses propaganda as a weapon to control the masses.

Published in 1949, the book has seen a surge in sales since the latest presidential election in the US.

Refusing to divulge information about the benefactor, the store’s manager Amy Stephenson was quoted on the media as saying, “It’s a quiet form of political engagement... we are happy to help in any way we can”.

Two other novels went up for grabs at the Booksmith following the initiative to give away the George Orwell novel in resistance against US president Donald Trump.

A recent travel ban to the US for refugees and several Muslim-majority countries has sparked widespread national and international outrage.

In the world of art and cinema, many distinguished figures and major cinematic events have already expressed their opposition to Trump’s aggressive policies and personality. Most recently, the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany opened with a political subtheme against the US president and his travel ban order.
